Problem in opening My Computer with rainmeter

Post by quick silver »

The shortcut for opening My Computer is this-
C:\Windows\explorer.exe /n,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

Now, since Rainmeter doesn't accept spaces, I'm writing it as
!Execute ["C:\Windows\explorer.exe" "/n,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}"]

But instead of opening My Computer, its opening My Documents. The my documents cmd is actually just /n, not with the CLSID value.

I know, I'm doing sth silly here. Anyone care to point out ?? :oops:

The easiest way I found was to create a desktop shortcut for whatever you want and then move that shortcut to whatever folder you like and then point the mouseaction to that shortcut

In all honesty I would stay away from using explorer switches to open the folder. Explorer has a "flaw"when using that switch and it doesn't end the explorer process you created and keeps it in memory instead

Just make a shortcut to the my computer folder and then link your mouse command to the shortcut.
I have three rules when I'm trying to help you.
  • Don't get mad when you don't understand something
  • Be VERY specific with what you ask for.
    The more specific you are, the higher the quality of support you receive.
  • Do not just copy and paste what I put in examples and come back saying it doesn't work.
    It does work, but I purposely left blanks that you need to fill for your specific needs.

well, thats certainly a workaround. But its not at all geeky. I'm not at all fine with the fact that I have to deal with an extra shortcut.

And Ryan, I have checked with the task manager. The explorer.exe is created, remains for some time and then it goes away. So, no problem with any mem leak.

Anyone got anything better ?

Just put the CLSID value like this example...

[MeterMyComputer]
Meter=IMAGE
ImageName=MyComputer.png
X=0
Y=0
W=38
H=38
LeftMouseDownAction=!execute [::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}]

My Documents:

[::{450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}]

Recycle Bin:

[::{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}]

GM
If at first you don't succeed; call it version 0.1

On my dock I use:

(My Computer): LeftMouseUpAction=!Execute ["shell:MyComputerFolder"]
(My Documents): LeftMouseUpAction=!Execute ["shell:Personal"]

Works good for me
