What skin do people CURRENTLY use for weather?

Post by jwideman »

I've searched, with no success, for a weather skin that currently works. I don't care what service it works with, so long as it works. I've looked up "location code" and all that jazz, and the URL never matches what I get from any of the services.

Tried that one. Tried many that use weather.com. They all seem to expect a location code that weather.com no longer uses and a bit of research tells me that weather.com broke everything, long ago. So how did you manage to get things working right?

I'm using VClouds Weather 2, as well, and never had any problem with it. The thing is, I'm getting my area code from another very useful rainmeter skin, called: 'Signal Source by Xcitement'. This is basically a world map that shows your location on this map from your IP address, and once you move the cursor over your identified location, it shows the weather area code as a pop-up text box.

Every time I switch location, this map finds me on the world map, so I just type in the new code in VClouds Weather and it's working always.

I use VClouds 2 as well and previously I used Simple Weather Update. Tried out a few others but always came back to VCLouds.

Regardless of which skin I use though, (except accuweather which just will not work[for me]) I have never used anything but my zip code and have never had any problem with that.

99% sure that's dead to Rainmeter because of users abusing their services.

And personally I use 10 Foot HUD or The F***ing Weather depending on my background. I'm actually using VClouds right now because it was designed for the Newspaper Desktop.

My own which uses weather.com as it seems to support places off the beaten track such as where I live... :rolmfao:

If you want to find weather for another place and you don't know the zip you can use this
http://xoap.weather.com/search/search?where=EnterCityHere
you will be taken to an xml page with a list of all codes for given city name
for example there are 2 other Tuscolas (my home town) and I get this
<search ver="3.0">
<loc id="USIL1186" type="1">Tuscola, IL</loc>
<loc id="USMI0837" type="1">Tuscola, MI</loc>
<loc id="USTX1381" type="1">Tuscola, TX</loc>
</search>

Sweet. I might have a go at making a little skin that uses this...
