I am using Windows 7 64-bit. Rainmeter 2.0.0 rev 745.
I have gotten a number of skins from customize.org and the ones that are not .rmskin files are not loading properly.
I have copied the folders to the Rainmeter > Skins folder as instructed.
After refreshing the application, the themes do not load.

Do they load if you use RainBrowser and launch them from the Browse tab.

Re: Rainmeter non-.rmskin's are not working.
There are two skin folders.
One of them in the my document\rainmeter folder
and the other is in the rainmeter install directory
The one you want to place them in (Assuming your running a default install and not the portable edition) depends on the current OS you're running:
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\YourName\My Documents\Rainmeter\Skins
Windows Vista and later: C:\Users\YourName\My Documents\Rainmeter\Skins
Next, each skin must be placed in their individual folders, however, variants of that skin can be in the same folder. Only 1 ini can be loaded from a folder at any given time.
So now that we have covered this and I know for sure were on the same page, have you done the above or did you just drop all of the INIs in the same folder??
Also, did the skins come with anything special that needed to be installed as well? E.G. Fonts, plugins, or addons
Are all of the variables properly tweaked to suit your needs? It could be that the author packaged the skin with no variables set and therefore the skin breaks when trying to run.

http://rainmeter.net/cms/SkinsThe skins are placed into the "Skins folder. Each skin must be in its own subfolder. The actual skin file is a normal .ini file with several sections that defines the skin's shape and the things it measures and displays. The skin's subfolder can contain several .ini files, but only one of them can be active at the any time. This allows you, for example, to supply localized skins or different variations of some skin.

I have three rules when I'm trying to help you.
- Don't get mad when you don't understand something
- Be VERY specific with what you ask for.
The more specific you are, the higher the quality of support you receive. - Do not just copy and paste what I put in examples and come back saying it doesn't work.
It does work, but I purposely left blanks that you need to fill for your specific needs.

I am not sure how to launch them from the rain browser.
As an example, here is one of the themes I was hoping to install to take a closer look at.
http://customize.org/rainmeter/skins/81304
I unzipped the file and copied it to:
C:\Users\Doug\Documents\Rainmeter\Skins\rainningPlanets

Just run RainBrowser from Windows Start menu under Rainmeter, and then
1) Restart Rainmeter so it sees the new skins
2) Use "Browse" to find the skins you want, and load them.

Btw, when using the "Raining Planets" suite that you have you need to not copy the raining planets folder but rather all the folders inside of it to the skins folder.
I have explained in this topic. It's the first reply
