New Apple Music App for Windows

Post by dandean »

There are hundreds of iTunes media players for Rainmeter, but Apple just introduced a Windows App (essentially replacing iTunes as a music player).

The new Apple Music app apparently doesn't display music information on the previous Rainmeter widget I'm using, nor do the controls work.

Do you know of a current Rainmeter widget that will properly display / operate the new Apple Music app for Windows?

You'd probably want to look for a skin using the WebNowPlaying plugin for Rainmeter. It's not yet 100% confirmed that it works with Apple Music, but this thread seems to indicate that there are chances for it:

Make sure you check (and actually read) the relevant parts of the usage instructions and help for the said plugin if you're trying to understand how it works. When it comes to looking for skins that do what you want and you might like, try either of these two directions (remember, they should use the WebNowPlaying plugin to get data from the player):

P.S. If by any chance you want to adapt the skin you're using now to work with WebNowPlaying, that will depend on its complexity. Generally, the options available in NowPlaying (the standard plugin for these things) and WebNowPlaying are quite similar, so in simpler cases editing the existing measures to use WebNowPlaying should be enough, e.g.:

Code: Select all

[YourParentMeasure]
Measure=NowPlaying
or

Code: Select all

[YourParentMeasure]
Measure=Plugin
Plugin=NowPlaying or NowPlaying.dll or Plugins\NowPlaying.dll
to

Code: Select all

[YourParentMeasure]
Measure=Plugin
Plugin=WebNowPlaying or WebNowPlaying.dll or Plugins\WebNowPlaying.dll
This, of course, assumes that you've already installed the WebNowPlaying plugin / browser extension and such.
