The IRC (Internet Relay Chat) service is something we use to have real-time chat sessions between the project team and any community members who need to ask a question or just want to discuss something. One or more Rainmeter Team members are pretty much always in the chat, although be patient, as we might all be away from our computers. If you have a question, just get in the chat and ask away. It might be a while before someone responds, but stick around, someone will get back to you.
If you are going to use IRC a lot, it might be worth installing an IRC client program like HexChat. For occasional use, or if you really don't know what IRC is about at all, we have provided a link to a very simple web-based interface. It is available from the hamburger menu at the top left of the forums.
Ok, so the news...
IRC operates on "servers", where you can create "#channels" that allow you to have groups dedicated to some topic or organization. We have created and always used the #rainmeter channel on the server FreeNode.
We have decided to change servers, as there is apparently one of those childish ego-wars going on about who owns and controls FreeNode and things are kind of in flux over there. You have to be of a certain age to remember the ARC vs. ZIP wars, but it's a bit like that...
So as of now, we have moved to the server Libera.Chat, using the channel #rainmeter. If you are using an IRC client application, please make this change to how you connect:
irc.libera.chat/6697
If you just want to use the web-based interface, simply connect to:
https://web.libera.chat/#rainmeter

Re: Change to IRC
Trivial detail. Even though the link on the manual has been updated it still says freenode.
