CPU Usage and multiple cores and threads

I have modified the illustro System skin to show CPU usage for all my cores. Or is it threads? I setup the skin for 4 CPUs, but I didn't really know how many I had. I have a Core i5-4200U which I looked up and found it has 2 cores and 4 threads. Is Rainmeter measuring core usage or thread usage?

TL;DR - Rainmeter measures what Intel calls a "thread," because at the operating system level (in this case at least) there is no differentiation between physical and virtual cores.

Thanks! The link answered my other question of what happens if a core that does not exist is specified. I had searched on CPU but not processor.
