I want to make an adventure time theme and I have images I want to use does the background of them have to be transparent? If so, is there a way to do that without photoshop? Thank you in advance

No the background does not have to be transparent but unless the image part of the icon has straight sides and is square or rectangular, it will probably look better if the background is transparent.

If you don't have photoshop, I'm sure you could use GIMP or Blender to produce .png files with a transparent background.
