I would like learn how to utilize the plentiful EXIF data from pictures. In particular, how to display the date a photo was taken at the bottom of a photo slideshow. Although I am sure there could be a ton of different ideas that could be used from this. Perhaps a picture of a DSLR's back lcd screen with a slide show, and then next to it a display showing the aperture, shutter speed, etc...
Any help would be great!

I don't think Rainmeter can read exif natively. You might want to look at Exiv2 to read them and use a lua script to gather what you need and pass the data to RM.
Launching a command line tool from Lua will display a console window for a fraction of second thought. I didn't found a way to avoid this yet
