Fair enough, I just posit that the anti-aliasing is much less objectionable on a light background.

Ah, that's it - you're right! The dark mode certainly makes those imperfections at the edges much more obvious... Indeed, I know it's tricky to get things right in terms of antialiasing on a small scale, but then, if it wasn't entirely possible, we wouldn't have had tons of icons and emojis that look awesome nowadays.

In fact, it is VERY tricky to design with pixels in a small size in general. Ask Susan Kare about it.

Normally, you shouldn't have to. Design large, then resize to small, the tool used to resize should do the rest. Unless I'm missing something - I didn't get to the emoji design yet.
