So all in all, I'm not too upset by this change. In any case, it is what it is... I would have preferred that they maintained, even in a "backwards compatibility" way. the old "categories", as this new approach does make it easier for your skin to get lost in a ton of stuff that is not Rainmeter .rmskins, but if you edit your existing submissions, and create any new submissions, to use the options I described above, I think we can live with this. I'm sorta fine with the "dark" style, and otherwise people should be able to get used to this pretty quickly.

It seems that you now need account to download files.

Yike. That's a bummer...

Man, they are really getting on my last good nerve.

About the Customization section - things actually might turn out well soon.

As for the required account for downloading - that's actually might be a good idea. To make people comment and fave the deviations is a good motivation to motivate authors and cherish their work. I know some might say that if people like it they will comment in any way, but I don't see anything bad in it.

Didn't realize the old theme toggle is hidden for newly registered users, though like it's been said it seems it's a stop-gap for the time being.

DA became the last popular and active host of such customization projects moving into the 10s. Over the years they've managed very subtle iterative and un-controversial site changes but with the acquisition it seems they've dropped that and decided that they need an entirely new image and focus around aspiring commercial artists (taking the most obvious inspiration, theme-wise, from Artstation).

I'll be curious how the hobbyist customization and exclusively amateur art communities will fare in the near future, since a vast bulk of DA isn't necessarily the type of polished creations or even category the new theme and UI seems to want to flaunt. Reading earlier posts in the thread about the disregard for existing categorization sounds like it'll take some adapting to.

OTOH, speaking of Github as an alternative host, I don't see the issue with using Github as a host for individual users rather than a single contributed to repository. One idea might be to have a separate Github pages site that simply acted like an index for various individual projects. That said it's less straightforward using Github in general so it's not as though it's a pressing need currently.

Well, I switched my account back to the old ui and sent them notes that my links to skins won't work and I might like the dark ui but, if it's unusable for proper category browsing then it's just not usable for me. I've been a member there, and a paid one, for most of 15 years now.
I'm not very hopeful about them doing the right thing when it comes to skins & themes but, I've spoken up to them.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's noticed all of the misplaced nonsense and utter crap to be frank. I am not sure what to think about their future with the artistic community if they don't enforce any standards.. I'm sick of seeing people's doodles and #$%^^& in icons, windowblinds & winamp skins (yea I know but, it's still my preferred audio player).. and generally in any category you'll find all manner of wrongly posted content.

It has become frustrating on top of the fact that they've obviously got people hacking into old & abandoned accounts since I am constantly having fav alerts from accounts that appear to be years old and then a few days later they've been caught (usually) and there's a line through that account. What the F.. ya know.?...!

I missed this last week.
I noticed a few links that confused me.
i go to https://www.deviantart.com/rainmeter/gallery/ and it looks the same as it always has, is this because i have a DA account already and joined the RM group?

is this "Home" interface changing or going away?

Yes, if you had an account before they made the changes, you are "grandfathered in" to the old interface. I'd suggest using the toggle at the top of the page and change to the new interface though to be honest, as you might as well start getting used to it. The old one is going to go away sooner or later.

It's just no longer as great a place to showcase Rainmeter skins. There is no longer any "Rainmeter" category, and finding new or existing skins is not anywhere as easy or successful as it once was. Having Rainmeter .rmskins just all mixed in with the overflowing sewer of Furry art and Anime porn on the site is regrettable for sure, but it sorta is what it is. Not sure there is any alternative that is practical.

It has gone, I think. At least for me until yesterday (or a few days before) the old style worked, however it doesn't anymore. I have been switched to the new style, although I'd have wanted to keep the old one. This "Eclipse" style is a...

The toggle at the top of the screen still works for me, but I guess your mileage may vary...
