Okay, I know I may get flamed for this because this seems like a pretty tight nit community. But spare the noob please..
I just now happened to stumble upon Rainmeter designs, and me being into graphic designing was hooked immediately.
However I downloaded the software and looked at some tutorials and I am just COMPLETELY overwhelmed.
Not to mention, I've been looking at some of your amazing skins you guys have posted in the forums and I am stunned at how awesome these things look.
I just have no clue where to start. I also heard something about a Rainmeter browser?
Are the customized widgets already made? Do you have to make them yourself?
Like for example..I saw someone's desktop with the picture of the artist they were listening to on iTunes...how do you get that kind of stuff? Or a picture of what the weather looks like that day, etc.
I'm very new to this if you can't tell. Can someone tell me exactly where to start?
Thanks so much.

Thank you very much for the reply.
Although..is there a simpler way to look at certain widgets? Like if I wanted to look at all kinds of clocks for my skin, is there a way to do that? Or do you have to sift through everything...

You can search on deviantART while IN the Rainmeter section, and find examples you can pick apart.Mikey wrote: Thank you very much for the reply.

So basically if I'm getting this right..
You just pick random customized widgets that you like and make your own skin I guess?
I make my own desktop wallpapers..so say I customize my own wallpaper...then I just pick cool widgets to go with that?

Re: Noobie here...
Most folks start by finding skins they like that do what they want and fit their environment by searching here and on deviantART / Customize.org. Then you will find that you like a skin, but want to change it a bit. You dive into Rainmeter 101 on the main site, and along with keeping the manual pages handy, start learning how to modify a skin to work or look better for your needs. That inevitably leads to Rainmeter addiction, hours lost in a haze of creativity and problem solving, and after a week or two - superstardom - with your skin winning "Skin of the Month" in our Rainmeter group on deviantART and people adding "the mighty" or "Rainmeter guru" in front of your name....Mikey wrote:So basically if I'm getting this right..

Oh man..
I think I'm in over my head here hahah. Not too sure I'm equipped with the right computer brains to do this.
Okay I know this is getting annoying..
But how do you get shortcuts on your skin?
Like to Firefox/Chrome..iTunes..Photoshop..etc..anything.
Or how do you get a music player on there?

Re: Noobie here...
Again, your best bet is to search on deviantART for skins that already do what you want to start with. Just search for "dock" and the name of your favorite music player, like "itunes" and there will be tons of them.
Then if you are interested in learning to modify them or make your own, hit the main site for the documentation. Rainmeter takes about a couple of days to "get", then you will find it's really pretty easy.
