Until the developer fixes the plug-in to use OAuth properly, you can still use it by using the free open-source version of the SuperTweet.net API that you can run on your own machine to proxy the request (locally) from the non-OAuth (broken) client to Twitter with OAuth. This is free and provided by the SuperTweet.net team volunteer community - so it's not like there is no free answer.

To install the local proxy, download the installer: http://code.google.com/p/supertweet-twitter-api-oauth-proxy/downloads/detail?name=SuperTweet_local_RC1.exe

Run the installer, then follow the instructions at http://www.supertweet.net/about/localproxy steps 4-8 (except the Windows App makes it easier to perform those steps 5-8 than described in those instructions)

In the end, you then point the plugin to http://localhost:8080 instead of api.twitter.com (or api.supertweet.net)

This option is 100% free and works today. The full source to the standalone proxy is available at: http://code.google.com/p/supertweet-twitter-api-oauth-proxy/

In fact, we'd also be happy to help someone deploy their own instance of the SuperTweet.net API for Rainmeter users, using their own server/resources (such as an Amazon EC2 instance) to create their own SuperTweet.net API service for Rainmeter users, if they wanted to. We can even set up the server for you, using the AWS service - all you need is an Amazon account to pay for it.

Hope this helps.

I followed all of those steps, but I can't figure out what you mean by pointing the plugin to http://localhost:8080. I can't find a plugin that I can edit.

An OAuth-based Twitter plugin for Rainmeter is in the works and it will (hopefully) be included in the beta next week (i.e. the beta to come out on 26.06.). Might want to wait for that :)
