Gmail Use

Hey I'm new to these forums but I've been looking around and still haven found an awnser so here's my question. Is it possible to change the Gmail thing where it checks if you have any new mail to show you whats new in your Google Reader side of your account cause I'm currently working on my first desktop and random quotes of the day would greatly help with it's style *I think I could change the Atom thing but I don't want to get rid of xkcd*.

You can just make a copy of one of the individual RSS readers, and make adjustments to the copy to get your quote of the day skin.
