The most likely culprit is some 3rd-party plugin that you are using in one of your skins.

The best way to tell is to:

1) Exit Rainmeter
2) Go to the folder %APPDATA%\Rainmeter and delete or rename the file Rainmeter.ini
3) Start Rainmeter

This will cause Rainmeter to create a new, default Rainmeter.ini.

Assuming that works ok, with a default, vanilla set of skins running, you can then unload the default Illustro skins and start loading the skins you normally use one at a time. When it crashes, you know which skin is causing it.

So even if you take the steps I outlined above, it crashes? That's mysterious... About the only suggestion I can make it to make sure you install the very latest version of your graphics drivers.

I am also quite surprised and the latest driver is installed.

Maybe a clean uninstall and reinstall of Rainmeter might help. Suggesting to try it out.

It's certainly worth doing a clean install of Rainmeter.

I would be suspicious that something is going on with Windows.

I'd open a cmd command prompt window, running it "As administrator".

Then type: sfc /scannow and hit enter.

Let that finish. If it finds and corrects any problems, run it again, do this until it comes up clean.

Reboot your PC.

Open a cmd command prompt window, running it "As administrator".

Then type: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and hit enter.

Let that finish, then reboot your PC.

See if that helps.

the scan did not show any errors, but DISM updated the version (shown in the screenshot)

p.s.
I'm sure something with Windows, maybe it unfortunately did not help :(
