Downloaded file are corrupt...where can I get a good copy?

Post by scott8035 »

Hi, I wanted to try Rainmeter, but when I download any of the 32-bit files (installer, zip, or beta), both Windows integrated unzipper and 7-zip complain that the files are corrupt (CRC error). Who can fix this?

I already tried that link, it gives me a popup that says:

"Installer integrity check has failed. Common causes include incomplete download and damaged media. Contact the installer's author to obtain a new copy."

I've tried downloading both 1.1 and 1.2beta from several places now, all with the same effect. It's like a damaged set of files have been mirrored. ???

Disable your antivirus and try again.

I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials. I disabled the realtime scanning. Tried again with same results.

I've installed many open source apps with this setup. Just to be sure something hasn't happened recently, I picked a random app (Handbrake), downloaded, and installed it just fine.

I'm the admin user on the box. Windows XP Pro SP3.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nothing is "mirrored" anywhere. There is ONE place we store the download for Rainmeter (any other place you find you can just assume comes with a virus as a bonus) and that is at:

http://code.google.com/p/rainmeter/downloads/list

This has been downloaded successfully by several hundred thousand folks in the last 6 months, so if getting it from here gives you an issue, I'm not quite sure what to tell you.

If applicable, disable any indexing apps such as X1 or Copernic.

Check for other sypware/malware apps besides Microsoft Security Essentials and disable.

You could also use msconfig, disable unneeded services and startup apps, reboot and try again.

What if someone emails it to him?
It sounds like something is not allowing a download, but an email attachment might work?

Thanks for the offer. I ended up remoting into my work machine and downloading it from there, then emailing it back to myself. Very weird situation. Thanks again.

That is a weird and somewhat worrisome situation you have there. I would be running MalwareBytes AntiMalware and looking at my browser addons carefully to see if there is something untoward going on.
