After updating and trying to install, I get a message saying "configuration file missing" and it tries to load a file, but nothing happens.
Suggestions, please.

Not sure. That doesn't look like an error that Rainmeter produces.

More exact . . .
"Product configuration is missing"

Still not an error that Rainmeter produces.

Sounds to me like the download of the Rainmeter installer might be corrupted.
The first thing I would do is run both MalwareBytes AntiMalware and whatever AntiVirus software you are using and check out your system, to be sure things that are being downloaded are not intercepted and somehow modified by some bad actor.
Then I would follow this:

Indeed, you appear to be correct, as Malwarebytes did detect the the installer update was infected.
I do not think any update occurred due the malware, so I'll try the update direct from the Rainmeter web site.
Thank you very much for your help.

Sure. Glad to help. My very strong advice is to ONLY get the Rainmeter installer from
https://www.rainmeter.net and nowhere else.

Just out of curiosity, where have you downloaded the installer from?

why did you download it from a other site ?

only download it from the
http://rainmeter.net site to be sure you that you don't get some virus or maleware on your pc.... we support only our installs, not what other sites make of it...
