Gaming Time & Date Skin Suggestions

Post by TheWolfBunny »

Why go modern with Rainmeter, when with these recommended Time & Date skins I've created, you can go back to the past? These are skins I've wanted to create to target to an audience of gamers who are fans of the days of nostalgia. To be very honest, when I first created these back then, I was pretty new and REALLY dense around that time period, until I've improved and upgraded all of these over time. That said, all 21 of these retro-styled skins listed below in this topic are tributes to retro games at heart, so I hope these recommendations are to your liking. Yes, the total amount of skins in this topic is 21, which is actually the same amount of games featured on the SNES Classic Edition. TIME IT LOUD!!!

Image
SMB3 Clock and Calendar
https://www.deviantart.com/thewolfbunny/art/SMB3-Clock-and-Calendar-For-Rainmeter-653851677
A Rainmeter skin inspired by Super Mario Bros. 3, released in 1990 for the NES. Features Classic Forms for the time and date, and one detail I worked really hard on: every single NES palette is available!

Image
NES Clock and Calendar
https://www.deviantart.com/thewolfbunny/art/NES-Clock-and-Calendar-For-Rainmeter-654283793
Something retro, but something that is a must-have for gamers. Feature three sizes, alt. forms with colorful borders and white texts, and every NES color palette is once again available!

Image
Game Boy Clock and Calendar
https://www.deviantart.com/thewolfbunny/art/Game-Boy-Clock-and-Calendar-For-Rainmeter-653876426
A skin inspired by the Game Boy, with the in-game text sourced from two launch games, Super Mario Land and Tetris. And, as a unique detail, all 32 default palettes from the Super Game Boy are available!

Image
Pokémon GS Clock and Calendar
https://www.deviantart.com/thewolfbunny/art/Pokemon-GS-Clock-and-Calendar-For-Rainmeter-657613663
A Rainmeter skin inspired by Pokémon Gold and Silver. I highly recommend this one for Pokémon trainers. Like the Game Boy Clock and Calendar, this one also has all 32 default palettes from the Super Game Boy.

Image
Sonic Mania Clock and Calendar
https://www.deviantart.com/thewolfbunny/art/Sonic-Mania-Clock-and-Calendar-For-Rainmeter-680176419
A Rainmeter skin based on Sonic Mania, released in 2017. Choose from 16 palettes sourced from the game!

Image
Sonic 3 Clock and Calendar
https://www.deviantart.com/thewolfbunny/art/Sonic-3-Clock-and-Calendar-For-Rainmeter-653962101

Image
Pokétch Watchface Clock
https://www.deviantart.com/thewolfbunny/art/Poketch-Watchface-Clock-For-Rainmeter-680207474
A Rainmeter skin that fully recreates the Pokétch from Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. It also features all eight palette swaps as a colorful detail, the latter 7 from the Kecleon Color Changer app. May I suggest this one in time for Gen. VIII on the Nintendo Switch next year?

Image
Super Metroid Clock and Calendar
https://www.deviantart.com/thewolfbunny/art/Super-Metroid-Clock-and-Calendar-For-Rainmeter-700189506
I recommend this Rainmeter skin based on Super Metroid just in time for Metroid Prime 4. Features 15 color palettes sourced from the game.

Puzzle Bobble Clock and Calendar
https://www.deviantart.com/thewolfbunny/art/Puzzle-Bobble-Clock-and-Calendar-For-Rainmeter-677973491
A Rainmeter skin based on one of my favorite puzzle games, Puzzle Bobble! Well, in North America, Puzzle Bobble was dubbed "Bust-a-Move". The game was developed and released by Taito. It features palettes sourced from the original arcade version, and the SNES, Windows, and SEGA Game Gear ports of the game. There are also custom palettes I created, and palettes sourced from Bust-a-Move DS, making it a total of 34 color palettes.

This skin features 16 palettes sourced from Tetris Attack, two palettes ripped from Pokemon Puzzle Challenge, and two more from Dr. Mario & Puzzle League.
There's also a small variant available!

You didn't think I would leave this one out, would you? This is based on Pokémon Red/Blue, the games that started it all for our journeys back in 1999. Well, 1996 for the Japanese. It also has all 32 Super Game Boy color palettes.

Changing the Rainmeter skin scene since 12/28/2016!
Why go with modern-styled skins when you can stick to retro ones?

OMG! There are too many skins. I downloaded the first package (SMB3 Clock and Calendar) and installed it, but I can't decide which skins to load. In my opinion it's not a good idea to include so many skins into a package.
Beside this, I'd add something: the Calc measures used into (probably?) all clock skins are complicated. Doesn't worth to make them so, instead I'd use something like this:

Code: Select all

[cHour10]
;DynamicVariables=1
Measure=Calc
Formula=( Floor ( mHour / 10 ))
;Formula=[mHour]>=20?2: ([mHour]>=10?1: 0)

[cHour01]
;DynamicVariables=1
Measure=Calc
Formula=( 10 * Frac ( mHour / 10 ))
;Formula=[mHour]>=50?[mHour]-50: ([mHour]>=40?[mHour]-40: ([mHour]>=30?[mHour]-30: ([mHour]>=20?[mHour]-20: ([mHour]>=10?[mHour]-10: [mHour]))))

[cMinute10]
;DynamicVariables=1
Measure=Calc
Formula=( Floor ( mMinute / 10 ))
;Formula=[mMinute]>=50?5: ([mMinute]>=40?4: ([mMinute]>=30?3: ([mMinute]>=20?2: ([mMinute]>=10?1: 0))))

[cMinute01]
;DynamicVariables=1
Measure=Calc
Formula=( 10 * Frac ( mMinute / 10 ))
;Formula=[mMinute]>=50?[mMinute]-50: ([mMinute]>=40?[mMinute]-40: ([mMinute]>=30?[mMinute]-30: ([mMinute]>=20?[mMinute]-20: ([mMinute]>=10?[mMinute]-10: [mMinute]))))
I didn't remove the old (original) Formula options, just commented them out.
The DynamicVariables=1 options are not needed as well, so I commented them out, too.
By the way, DynamicVariables=1 are also not needed on Time measures (eg [mHour] and [mMinute]). Comment them out / remove them as well.
Otherwise interesting idea and good work.
