Rainmeter Forums

Rainmeter has been crashing at startup today for some reason. The latest build of windows was installed by Windows Update 2 days ago, maybe it has some compatibility issues with Rainmeter. I tried Rainmeter 4.1 and 4.2-r3018-beta both, it crashed in both versions. My OS version is Windows 10 Pro (Build No 16299.15). Link to dmp file :

I would rename or delete C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Rainmeter\Rainmeter.ini and start Rainmeter. Assuming that works ok (it will recreate the file and load the default illustro skins) then you can unload the illustro skins and start loading your skins one at a time in Manage, until you find the one that is causing the crash. We can then take a look at that skin to see what is going on.

I don't think this is a problem with Rainmeter as such, as I am also on that version of Windows, with no issues.

I deleted that file and ran Rainmeter but it crashed again.

That's not good. I would re-install the latest Rainmeter (it won't change any of your skins or other stuff) to see if that helps, and if not, then I would start looking at your Windows. There is nothing about the latest Rainmeter that doesn't like the latest Windows version, I'm running it myself.

You can open a cmd.exe console window "as administrator" and run this:

sfc /scannow

That will check your Windows install for any errors and fix them.

I would also run MalwareBytes AntiMalware to be sure you don't have something creepy in your system.

It's working fine now. I ran sfc /scannow but there were no errors detected, but MalwareBytes detected some threats and the problem was fixed. Thank you.

Hello hello,

I have the same situation: crash immediately after running Rainmeter.
My Rainmeter appears today with this problem after months working smoothly.
Im not sure if it was a Windows Update because mine update automatically.

Apart of:
- Delete Rainmeter.ini
- Reinstall Rainmeter (I tryed installing both: official and beta versions)
- Verify Windows with sfc /scannow
- Verify computer with MalwareBytes AntiMalware
I 've done all of that and my problem continues.

Any other idea?

You might try following this:

Then when you install Rainmeter do a "portable" installation to some folder like C:\Rainmeter.

Maybe there is something that is messed up with your permissions or something.

Hey, I got the same issue and tried all of the suggestions above but no results.

Is the portable installation supposed to use the appdata folder after deleting rainmeter.ini in the local folder?

There might indeed be something wrong with my permissions got any idea on how to fix that? I've tried giving all users full control over the appdata/rainmeter folder and the files themselves.

The portable install will be entirely self-contained in the installation folder, and won't use any of your personal folders like Documents or AppData.
