I'm wondering what other people's preference is -
When measuring hard drive usage, would you rather have the amount of space which is used or the amount of space which is free?
Ideally, you can show just display both, but if you had to pick one, which is more intuitive for you? If you are given one, do you convert to the other in your head?
Personally, I'm used to seeing quantities represented as the fraction full of the total - like 10 Gb used of 50 Gb or 20% used. (If nothing else, CPU and RAM seem to be that way by convention and it's nice to be consistent...) But in a sense, it seems more useful to know how much space you have left, since we're dealing with finite resources - we ought to care less about how much we have allocated and more about how much more we could allocate. Right?
