Newbie Question - how do i access my windows desktop items

My Windows desktop items are now behind the rainmaker skin on the left side of the screen. How do I access them? Do I have to exit the skin to do this or is there a toggle key I can use to turn off the portion of the screen that covers the icons?

you can right-click a Rainmeter skin and check "Hide on mouse over"
