Ok. Lets see if I got this right.

I had 2 skins running. One is my weather skin and one is a test skin with the ONWAKEACTION you suggested.
Curiously enough the test skin displayed "I just woke up" in the log file but I had the same ONWAKEACTION in my weather skin that also included !REFRESH and it did not work. This is what I had in my weather skin

So yes it worked and no it didn't work?

I am going to assume you didn't have BOTH of these OnWakeActions in the same skin, am I right?
If so, the second one will never be read by Rainmeter.

Based on your log, you have the top OnWakeAction in a skin called "testonwake.ini", while the second OnWakeAction is in your weather skin called "Dock Laptop Weather.ini". Correct me if I am wrong.

Assuming these OnWakeActions are in separate skins..

Honestly, I am a little surprised by these results. I can confirm you are receiving the correct messages from Windows to execute the OnWakeActions for BOTH skins. It's specifically the *** MW_POWERBROADCAST received. wParam=0x00000012 log message. What isn't happening is the entire bang sequence....but it might be specifically the !Refresh bang (it uses something called PostMessage).

A !Refresh bang should send a "Refreshing skin" log message. You can see this message higher up when the skin is first loaded. It looks like this: Dock Laptop Weather\Dock Laptop Weather.ini: Refreshing skin.

That log message should be happening right after the OnWakeAction is executed for the test skin (since it contains a !Refresh, the weather skin's refreshed should be delayed by 10 seconds based on its OnWakeAction). But that is not showing in your reported log for either skin.

On top of that, the first log message (from the test skin) is executed...but not the second log message (from the weather skin).

So......that is very weird.

I tried your scenario of 2 skins, both with same OnWakeActions as you have defined, and they both fire correctly on my machine (not a Surface).

For this one, I tweaked some of the log messages. You should see some extra messages when the OnWakeAction "should" execute. Also, since something seems weird with the !Refresh bang, it will log something when that happens as well.

Aside from that, I did also tweak how OnWakeAction is executed, so it might actually work this time. *fingers crossed*

Test this build just like last time, and post your entire log file again.

Not an expert in the internals of this, but the way I see it it's possibly one of the following:
- an issue when it comes to the !Refresh bang and OnWakeAction running on a MS Surface (this has been explored by Brian)
- an issue where the "first" skin to get the wake event produces the expected result, while the following do not (this wasn't tested yet)

So, if you're willing to, I propose another test of my own, to see if by any chance it's not the latter (checking Debug Mode and Log To File isn't necessary for this, neither is having Brian's test versions installed, so you can uncheck those options and install the "normal" last version of Rainmeter). Forget about the other skins you have and temporarily unload your weather skin and your test skin (or, even better, ALL your other skins, so that the outcome is as clean and relevant as possible), then load the 3 skins from the below .zip file (you can extract them directly into your skins folder, Refresh All in the Rainmeter context menu, then load them in their numerical order):

Now, choose Start / Power / Sleep from the taskbar to sleep, wait a bit until your tablet fully enters sleep state, then wake it via click / touch or whatever and immediately go to the Rainmeter's Log tab to see if you got "I just woke up!" messages from ALL these 3 skins.

If you want, you can set OnWakeAction=[!Log "I just woke up!"][!Refresh] in either one or all of these 3 skins and repeat the above wake test, to see if it makes any difference. You don't need to post any log, just let us know if you got the messages from all the 3 skins in all scenarios you're willing to try (e.g. without and with the refresh bang).

Exactly. So far, everything proved that the OnWakeAction doesn't work only in the context of your weather skin and its environment (either because of the refresh or some other not yet known reasons). The simple log message action both me and Brian recommended earlier proved that the action itself does in fact work, even on an MS Surface, because the message was printed to the log.

The intent of the test I mentioned above was to try and temporarily remove all the other skins (including your weather one) from the equation, see if that makes a difference, and determine what exactly triggers the OnWakeAction to stop working as expected, by gradually adding potential culprits (e.g. refresh, more than one skin, etc.) to the whole thing.

So I don't think that is the issue.

As you wish. It's your skin, your device, your decision on what to do or not.

I did exactly like you said and received no message from any of the 3 skins.

In previous tests, however, I did receive a message with my test skin when using Brian's modified Rainmeter, so at least something he did made my test skin work.

Ah, I see - that explains it, indeed. Thank you for testing. Looks like Brian is on the right track with the changes he made, but something is still preventing this to work in all cases, unfortunately. I shouldn't have suggested to revert to the normal version then - my bad.
