Separating 4 themes into its own rmskin

Post by edreyes »

Hi all,
I've just started using Rainmeter and just love it! This may be a noob question but I could use some help here.
I have 4 extended displays. Each display's wallpaper background is managed separately using DisplayFusion. Each display has multiple skins that I've pieced together from different themes.
Each display can be used as a standalone.
My question is, if I want to rmskin everything for monitor 1 and not 2,3 & 4. What's the best process to do so since, deviant and customize only take rmskin files.
I assume if I run the new create feature it would package everything I am using into 1.

Here's a screenshot of all 4 http://customize.org/screenshots/89408
Here's screen 1: http://customize.org/screenshots/89409
Here's screen 2: http://customize.org/screenshots/89410
Here's screen 3: http://customize.org/screenshots/89412
Here's screen 4: http://customize.org/screenshots/89413

Any help would be great considering I'm getting requests for individual themes, the common user is not going to have my setup.

Thanks for putting out such a great tool, I've had the others and had bad experiences that stumbling upon Rainmeter, is now my new addiction.
Bravo!

The skin packager will let you select the skin(or suite) that you want to package, NOT your current setup. It will not allow multiple skins, or multiple suites. We are trying to discourage authors of packaging skins that are not theirs. Also, it is not good practice to package .rmskin's inside other .rmskin's.

Now to your question.

  1. Please do not package skins that you did not create. Instead just provide a link to where a user can download it.
  2. If you did create some of these skins, then package each skin with its own .rmskin.
  3. If your skins are part of some suite that you have created, then package the entire suite in the .rmskin.
  4. If you want to include a theme with your .rmskin, all you have to do is open the Manage dialog and unload any skins that you do not want to include in your theme, then on the Themes tab, save the theme. Then when you create the .rmskin, click on the "Add Theme" button. You can include multiple themes.
Here is some more information about the new skin packager.

I hope that answers your questions...

Thanks Brian,

This helps out a lot since trying out Rainmeter for the first time, I wanted to make sure I'm crediting the right people based on the multiple skins/themes I used.
Question, is the author listed in the .ini file is the originator of the skin? A few themes have packaged multiple authored skins.
Do I want to provide a link to the skin's author or the theme packager author?

Thanks again for your response.

That is more up to you. Personally, I would always link to the original skin author. If the skin is heavily modified, then a link to that author would we good as well.

For authors, there is a fine line between original content and modified content. I think a lot of people take "inspiration" from other authors and not fully credit that author for it.

BTW - I always think it is a good idea to ask the original author if you can distribute one of their skins that you have modified (even if their license says you can).
