Self detecting weather

Post by kop4 »

Started this a while ago... just uploaded it now to dA I took the ip location of xcitment's skin (link on dA) and put it into SieSie's weather skin.

The skin determines your location from your ip and then your weather code.

What I want to know is, is this original, or did someone beat me to it?

As far as I know it's original.

I suggest you package your skin using the rmskin format. Your skin would be easier to install and would allow you to submit it to the Rainmeter Deviantart Group Skins Gallery. Submitting to the group would greatly increase the number of people that would see your skin.

You need to remove "\Suite\" from the !WriteKeyValue file paths.

You also need to remove [!Redraw] from the [flip] meters.

Otherwise it works pretty good.

It gives me the correct location. Other sites say that i'm in Missouri when I'm actually in Minnesota.

Thinks I am in Wales, when I'm in England, so luck of the draw I guess... :o

Well Idk whats up with england, but mine works great...

I live in a small town in alberta, just big enough to have its own weather station, and therefore weather code.
My ip always showed up as Edmonton, the nearest city, though. I thought this was close enough and made the skin anyway.
A little while ago, something changed and all of a sudden my ip was determined to be in toronto, across the country.
Then, just a week ago, I checked again and it showed the correct town, not just the nearest city.

So, it might just be switching around for no apparent reason like mine did.. or maybe it has to do with your internet provider. idk anything about the inner workings of the web though, so dont ask me :P
