Rainmeter installer size over time

Post by poiru »

Decided to plot the Rainmeter installer size from 1.0 to the latest beta. Not that size matters (except in some things :D) these days, but I just wanted a visual view.

In case you're wondering about the different curves:
- Prior to r707, we had separate installers for both 32bit and 64bit versions of Rainmeter (green and red curves)
- After r707, the 32bit and 64bit installers were merged into a single installer (blue curve)

can you tell me why current installer's size so small)?
What makes installer's size to be that big as was? or ...compressing? :)

The most significant change was removing the Visual C++ redistributable files from the installer and downloading them on-demand instead. Other savings have been from:
- Merging tools (e.g. RainBrowser & RainThemes -> Rainmeter.dll, RainBackup & Rainstaller -> SkinInstaller.exe)
- Replacing Gnometer & Enigma with illustro
- Getting rid of included fonts (Segoe UI) completely
- Bunch of other minor things
