Bitmap usage for clock?

I want to create a graphical clock and so I have been reading through the Bitmap section to see if this was possible, yes I know about Analogue Clocks, but that isn't what I am trying to create - or if it is, I cannot see how to employ this to create what I see in my mind's eye.

Essentially I want an image to be added each hour until 12 then remove all, 60 images for minutes, however if I understand the bitmap section I would need 12 x 60 = 720 so seconds would seem like way to much effort showing something like 43200.

That said, If I reused the hours, minute and seconds images, I would need 3, and a method to rotate them (unless of course the analogue clock can support shapes other than lines and leave a persistent item up for x hour or minutes).

To illustrate what my intention is I provide you the this (horrible) image which shows 5 past 3; 3 solid hours, and 9 hollow ones =3 O'clock - 5 solid minutes and 55 hollow (OK there's NOT 55 hollow ones, I got bored drawing the 55 empty ones but you get the idea) =5 past.

What I need to know is am I trying to do something that CAN be done with Rainmeter and if so what is the most sensible way to go about achieving this? I assume I am (as always) trying to do something the hard way having failed to understand the example/tutorials.

So, what you are looking for is really Bars for the hours that fills with the minutes?
And then you want 60 images that show up when the minute is right?

Sound to me like you only need bars and images. And an almost massive amount of calcs.
For the images you really only need 2 (if every minute is supposed to look the same). One that is empty and one that is full. Then just reuse them.

Not exactly, but the background from the clock you linked seems to suggest a way forward; use an image for the empty hours and minutes, then pop the hours and minutes over the top. Yes, all hourse minues the same, just rotated.

Just to clarify, at midnight there would be nothing showing at all, at 0030 hours the hour is still empty by 30 minute marks are up. At 0100 there appears the first hour block and all the minute shapes vanish and begin again.

I'm going to re-read the Imageslice thread and see if that might be (mis)employed... :rolmfao:

Ah. That's actually a lot more simple.
Have 4 images, 2 for the hours and 2 for the minutes, one empty and one full.
Place everything at the right place, hide every 'filled image'.
Have some if's that show the hidden images based on the time. I would suggest using Lua for this as it is so much easier to write the ifs in.

I'm still getting my head around Rainmeter, a quick look at the Lua pages suggest my head might explode. I think this idea will go on the back burner for now. :vomit:

I found something that seems to do what I want - This skin called Casual does something similar to what I want with 11 frames (x2) for memory/swap using:

Now I figure if I use 12 frames instead of 11 this would work with hours & 5 minutes blocks, or more with more frames.

So to test this I figure just see if I can get it going with an 11 hour day before trying to figure out how to make a pie drawing with 12 slices :confused: so I assume that I use the time measure with:
  • %I - Hour in 12-hour format (01 - 12)
  • %M - Minute as decimal number (00 - 59)
What I don't understand is the difference between what values PhysicalMemory & SwapMemory return that is different to Time and what I need to do to that output to "drive" the Meter.

This is what I have used and I get a clock that suggests it is almost midnight:

So inner ring is 0001-1100 and the second ring is 1200-2359, if I understand this right, how can this be adjusted to 1-12 like an analogue wallclock?

Currently I am attempting to add another ring for seconds by duplicating the minutes and failing heroically:) still at least find and replace makes it simple to do I guess

Funny how typos & spelling mistakes are easier to spot in the morning; source of the random second hands that didn't move. OK, so I have changed the Hour variable to %I solving my first question regarding 24/12 hour measures, adding the 3rd ring (having removed the second hour one) also sorted and I'm using 3 different colours to make testing easier.

It took me a little head scratching to figure out why the second had "ring" was offset until I realised minutes & hours H & W were defined by MinuteLength in both instances (both hastily edited to #SecondLength#).

Yes I am a flea standing on the shoulder of a giant, but I am learning new things all the time and this morning I feel pretty good :D

Now all I have to do is figure out how to extend the circular Aero Blur 10 pixels wider than the clock and change the colours to something more subtle.

Ok... the blur region is pretty easy. Where you have the Height and Width of all the roundlines, add 20. Figure out what that value is then set that to BlurRegion. I had to add 1 to my version because it was a bit smaller than it needed to be so you will probably have to play with the number a little to make it just perfect. I also have to admit that I don't like using glass right now as the edges aren't exactly smooth.

Also, a suggestion. Add a ring between the hour ring and minutes that indicates whether it's pm or not.
