Windows 'Files' app customisation question.

Post by RainDojo »

It's hard to find anything other than what's on the actual https://files.community/ website so I thought I'd ask here.

I'm trying to recreate the Windows XP 2024 from YouTube (https://youtu.be/YLFUl9MW_Ks?feature=shared&t=282), which was created by a concept artist using a mix of real software and Photoshop.
I've got the Taskbar and the Start Men kind of nailed:

But the Taskbar and Start Menu are not a big deal without that beautiful Files Explorer. I have found an App called 'Files' which looks just like his video but I can't see how to skin it other than just change some colours.

Here's a screenshot from his video where he is obviously using the 'Files' app:

Is it possible to match the part I've drawn a red shape around? Particularly the buttons?

.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Well, you could run the Files app from a Rainmeter skin, or replicate how the app looks in a skin - it's your choice. The former is done via bangs running the app with / without parameters or RunCommand measures, the latter is done by photoshopping images yourself or stealing them from the resources used by the app.

Thanks but I couldn't replicate the App because it's a Folder Explorer so I'd have to make one for every folder and sub-folder. I was just hoping there was a way to theme the actual App.

Doesn't the app have a help section or something, or say if it's really "skinnable" or not? As for a folder explorer, I doubt that you'll have to make multiple such instances. Take a look at the example at the bottom of this page, maybe it helps:
https://docs.rainmeter.net/manual/plugins/fileview/
Also, if you need to get folder info:

This is not what Rainmeter is for or about. If you want to skin the app or recreate the XP UI properly, you would do what the video author did and just buy a copy of Stardock's WindowBlinds. Their Windows XP "Luna" theme has been around since forever (er, since Vista?); this is nothing new.
