I'm certainly glad this forum is here. I am having the same problem and have the exact file paths and registry entries, and thanks to the forum, the troubleshooting work has already been started - or completed, hopefully.

I first noticed the error message when trying to install ABP1.2rmskin, and another thread for the ABP skin discusses this problem too. However, I don't know if this error message is specific to that skin or to .rmskin files created in a certain way?

The file in the link quoted is no longer there, and I am wondering if you would, please, make it available again? Alternatively, is there a Rainmeter 2.1 Beta that you would recommend as a way to fix this?

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Try this version. If that does not help, post the error message here.

Yeah!!! Thank you, poiru, for your generous assistance!

I'm now on my way to some really nice (for me anyway) customizations and skins.

I hope I can return a favor for someone else soon.

I am having this same issue. I have deleted all rainmeter files and am still recieving this error message after reinstalling and trying to open rainmeter.

What exactly is the message you get? And when do you get it? When try installing a skin (as the name of the topic and the initial question say), or when you try opening Rainmeter (as you say in your question)?

I no longer am getting the error message. It is allowing me to chose to open with default app but it says to open it just once. When I click just once it still gives me the option to open it with default app

EDIT: Ok, never mind...

Sorry, but I definitely can't follow you.
What is allowing you to open what with default app? Rainmeter? And what should you open? A skin or a skin installer? Or something else? I guess a skin installer, but am I correct?
Please describe exactly what are you trying to do and what is happening. For instance:
  • Have Rainmeter loaded.
  • Try opening a skin installer (a .rmskin file).
  • Getting the following error message: ...
  • And so on...
Please post everything you're doing and everything which are going on.
