You can but I don't think you have to... I mean with others it works right?
And this won't work everytime... If the initial the value is wrong then the player needs to be running to write the correct path. But I guess it's better than doing it manually.
Also, just make it so that other players use OpenPlayer bang and AIMP use this method.

That is the part which is proving problematic. Because this means if the user selects another player, the Aimp path has to be deleted. (Which implies that the deletion has to be done explicitly.... probably by overwriting the path with that of the chosen player).
And a side issue is that I am also considering the installation drive, as you mentioned before. If someone is using a drive other than C:, then there will have to be a way to locate it.

This is similar to how Aimp behaves without the path. Once the player is running, everything works fine. Even closing it using the SAME !Toggleplayer bang works. But when it is off, it wont start with the !Toggleplayer bang. It has to be started manually.
