I don't think you can send anything to addons folder, nor could our ancestors. It was there just to reduce redundancy for addons like RainRGB etcetera. It had to be done by the user.

So now that @Resources is here, user doesn't need to do anything. Everything just works out of the box.

Right. The @Resource folder or a dedicated subfolder is the best place for them.
