jsmorley wrote: July 29th, 2021, 2:37 pm Install Rainmeter manually by downloading the beta installer and running it. Be sure "Launch Rainmeter on startup" is "checked".

WinGet will "obey" the current setting for this value when it installs Rainmeter, so if that value is "unchecked", it will stay "unchecked".
jsmorley wrote: July 29th, 2021, 2:40 pm We had one beta where the default for /AUTOSTART was sorta broken. It should work as expected as of the r3508 beta.

Going forward, it should be fine to just use WinGet install "Rainmeter (beta)" from the command line.

We have not yet done a 4.4 "final" version, but once we do, you will get a notification from Rainmeter and can just use:

WinGet install "Rainmeter (final)" to get the final release 4.4 version.

As of this writing, there is NO "auto update" feature in Rainmeter.
All good, just reinstalled and checked startup, and this time it's there, ty!

Excellent!

You got caught in a very rare (hopefully) situation where you either used the /S "silent" command to install manually, or used WinGet to install during the brief window where the /AUTOSTART switch on the silent installer was broken. So "Launch Rainmeter on startup" was mistakenly "unchecked", and since the proper "default" for that is to obey what it is currently, all future installs with /S or WinGet never turned it back on. Sorry...

No worries just finished a vid conf with Eric of Pebble & Other fame, his latest project is Beeper,
One of the early testers for it, so he gave us all a bit of an orientation, 205am, bug-eyed and tired!*

Tnx for your help,

So we'll get auto-notification, advising of final release;
But it just won't auto-install that final release?

Right.

As of this writing, Rainmeter will notify you if you are on a version that is less than the latest "final" release. It will not notify on any changes to "beta" versions. It does not support any automated installation. You need to do that yourself by going to the site and getting the release, or using WinGet in a command window.

Probably not long. We don't have a firm date yet though. We are still working through some details with the new "silent install" and "WinGet" stuff. Need to be sure we have all that "right" before we do a final version release.

Why is so important a final release? Betas are perfectly stable, no issues with any of them. Can be perfectly used.

Because apparently you're only notified to update in the case of final releases?

Might be. But I doubt it worth using a final release only for this reason. As said, betas are perfectly stable and additionally almost always have a lot of new features, which are not available in final releases.
