SilverAzide wrote: January 15th, 2021, 1:10 pm Sorry, there are no viruses in these as I've mentioned before. Something like 60+ AV engines scanned this and came up clean, but 2 or 3 are reporting false positives. This is mostly like due to including RainRGB, as I and others (including jsmorley) have mentioned before. Both the rmskin files mentioned in the reports include RainRGB, and this is the source of the false positive. Dudebaker's Gadgets Additions suite does not include RainRGB. The next version of the Gadgets will not use this tool anymore either; a purely Rainmeter-based color picker will be used instead.

Regarding DeviantArt, the Gadgets were removed, but they are back now. You can find them here. DeviantArt never gave me a clear answer why they were removed. I was able to reach their support people on 3 occasions and every person gave me a different answer why they were removed. I was told: 1) I was a spammer (not bloody likely), 2) the Gadgets contained links to porn (not possible and absurd), and 3) some nonsense about containing links to 3rd party for-profit websites (also absurd and not possible). I posted the exact same files again, and magically all is OK, so clearly DeviantArt's moderation standards leave much to be desired.

Finally, your conclusions are flawed. Because 2 or 3 minor and rarely-used AV products report a problem while 60+ (including top names like Microsoft, Kaspersky, McAfee, BitDefender, etc.) do not, do not imply in any way that a problem exists. It is much more likely that those AV products are poorly designed and their results should be ignored in the face of overwhelming evidence that no problem is present.

In addition, your statement "Under such conditions, only the Rainmeter developers take on the expert responsibility and confirm the harmlessness and flawlessness of the code in gadgets for us, ordinary, non-technical users" is incorrect. It is not possible to prove a negative; I can't prove to you that something does not exist. The burden of proof actually belongs to the accuser (that would be you). If you would like to prove this for yourself, rename the .rmskin files to .zip, delete the RainRGB executables from the zip, and then resubmit the zip files to VirusTotal. I believe you will find no issues with either of the skin files once RainRGB is removed.

(I'm not trying to be a jerk by telling you that you are the one that needs to do this. There is NOTHING I can do to prove to you there is NOT some virus present, only you can do that to prove it for yourself. You've taken the first step by submitting the files to VirusTotal, but you are not done yet...)
I didn't want to offend you in any way, unlike you ...

Unfortunately, I am not a programmer or developer, I am not an expert in computer languages, but an ordinary user who likes AddGadgets from the very beginning

Excuse me that the only way to effectively defend against viruses for regular users is to send them to VirusTotal

Sending it to VirusTotal is certainly appropriate. If you do get some hits, which is likely given the large number of Antivirus platforms it uses (some of which are good, and some honestly are crap), then contacting the author is the right thing to do. You just have to take his word for it that all is well, and that any hits you get are false positives. As long as you get the file directly from where the author uploaded it, and not from some unknown source, you are safe.

Sorry, I didn't mean to give offense, I was merely pointing out that there is literally nothing *I* can do to assure you the skin is safe, beyond informing you that the VirusTotal report includes false positives. The only proper approach is for you to do what you did, and submit suspicious software to VirusTotal. My response to the report is to inform you that the .rmskin files include an executable (RainRGB.exe) that is known to cause false positives.

You have a number of choices now: you can choose to trust me and the 60 other AV products that say everything is OK, you can not trust me or the 60 AV products and perform the actions I stated above to assure yourself that the skins are OK (by removing the RainRGB executable and resubmitting to VT), and the third option (which I hope you won't take) is to opt to not use the Gadgets. But as I mentioned, there is no action I can take that can make you feel comfortable; this is true of any software, not just this.

As mentioned above, I already have plans to remove RainRGB from all the Gadgets skins, so the next version should not have any of these false positives.

I think we have properly clarified this unpleasant and controversial point, and it can be closed.
In turn, here I would like to add that the same definition of Yandex is still shit, and I know what I'm talking about!

Regarding further development: personally, I will record a video sequence for my followers who are interested in computers. And to the author of remarkably revived gadgets, I recommend:
- do not violate the digital gadget (because it is a legend);
- to develop new, but own and in the color palette, additional gadgets;

Rainmeter and these gadgets are a good product, it's just starting to take off! We must make the future!

Are you the author?
Here is what I found in some 2014 posts :
"RainRGB4.exe is Copyright 2010, 2011 by Jeffrey Morley"
Thanks for clarifying.

The author is jsmorley. I included the readme file (RainRGB4_Readme.txt) in the Gadgets\@Resources folder if you want more info. I believe you can find this tool posted on the forums, here. In the future, all the Gadgets will use a variant of raiguard's ColorPickerPlus, which is based on jsmorley's ColorPicker. This is a purely Rainmeter solution, which should eliminate the false positives given by some AV products.

SilverAzide wrote: January 14th, 2021, 12:16 am It would also help that once you see the negative numbers, in addition to the screenshot, post the contents of your Rainmeter.stats file.
This file is C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Rainmeter\Rainmeter.stats.
It's finally showing the negative numbers again. I had over 22 days of uninterrupted uptime! My computer crashed at this point (probably because of slightly unstable overclocking). If I remember correctly, this has happened in the past without the computer crashing. I'm not even sure if the negative values manifested right after that or a few hours later. I've noticed the the Current counter value still updating as data is transferred, i.e. the amount of negative value is decreasing. Anyways, here is the info (I edited out my IP):

Wow, that's interesting!

So it looks like when you first started the skin your network adapter was reporting it was at ~7.2TB up/~6.9TB down (as shown in the "...Base" measures), then at some point your network adapter reset (or reached the maximum integer value and reset) and the totals started over (as shown in the "...Total" measures). Normally, the "base" will always be less than the "total" (i.e., "total" and "base" are the same at the start, then "total" always increases while you upload/download data). So the "current" values (i.e., the data transmitted/received for the current session) is "total" - "base". Normally this works, but it looks like since your "total" was reset back to zero, then "base" is actually larger and thus you get the negative "current" values. Hm! Too bad we missed the point just before it wrapped around to zero; it would have been interesting to see what that max value was.

I will see about adding a trap for this in the next version of skin; the only issue is that the "current" session values will reset back to zero and the numbers will start increasing again, but at least they won't be goofy negative values.

If you don't want to wait for the next version, you can do either of two things: 1) refresh the skin when you see negative values, which will reset the "base" starting point and fix the calcs, or 2) switch to use the "Network Meter Pro" skin. This skin is immune to adapter resets and should show proper values beyond the exabyte range. The skin requires installing a service, so this might not be an option that interests you.

Thank you for reporting this! I appreciate your 22 days of persistence, LOL!

I just restarted my computer and it happened again. :D

I appreciate you debugging this. So it seems that my network adapter drivers are the culprit here?

Resetting the Current count is definitely better than meaningless negative values!

Have you configured the skin to report on specific adapters or are you just reporting everything (i.e., left the adapter entries blank in the Settings)?
