Audio not working

Post by AviusHD »

My visualizer isn't working. I use fountain of colors. I refreshed it. I've re-downloaded it multiple times. I've tried other visualizer's. Nothing working. Rainmeter isn't even showing up on my volume mixer. It worked before but I got a new HDD now it isn't.

Try going into Rainmeter Settings (right click, Rainmeter->Manage, pick Settings tab) and enable "Debug mode" and "Log to file" in the Logging section, then try refreshing the visualizer skin and post the log here.

I would do two things:

1) Remove any copies of AudioLevel.dll from C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Rainmeter\Plugins

2) Install the latest 3.3 beta of Rainmeter from http://rainmeter.net.

It appears to be missing the plugin (AudioLevel.dll), or maybe it can't load it for some reason. Should be in c:/Program Files/Rainmeter/Plugins. Check and see if it's there maybe?

No reason that there has to be, that is where 3rd-party plugins are kept, and perhaps you just never installed any.

The only thing that jumps out at me is your comment that you "replaced your HDD" and that is when the issue started. I'm wondering if you restored from a backup when you replaced the hard drive, and there is an "ownership" issue of some kind with one or more of the Rainmeter folders.

I would do this:

1) Get this utility that adds a "Take ownership" to Window's right-click menu.
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/
2) Install it. It's a simple script that makes a registry change.
3) Exit Rainmeter
4) Right-click on the follow folders and use the "Take ownership" menu item.

C:\Program Files\Rainmeter
C:\Users\YourName\Documents\Rainmeter
C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Rainmeter

5) Re-install the latest Rainmeter 3.3 beta.

I should of made myself more clear. When I meant replace my HDD. I factory reset it. So it was almost brand new. I didn't restore it at all I just started new with a clean Hard Drive. But I'm doing the Take Ownership right now. I will let you know if this helps!

Yeah, same difference really. If you re-installed Windows and then restored a previous backup of your files, not using just "copy", but some real backup / restore program like TrueImage, then it is possible to get "ownership" issues. It's worth a shot anyway.
