Change your Windows 7 Start Orb

Post by jsmorley »

This may have been discussed here somewhere, but I just ran upon this and found it really handy.

If you want to change the Windows 7 (NOT VISTA, NOT XP) "Start Orb" to something different, this little tool will make it a snap.

Get this little utility. After unzipping, right click it and say "Run as Administrator"
http://www.thewindowsclub.com/windows-7-start-button-changer-released

It is falling off a log easy to use, just follow the prompts on the screen.

If you want to find more "Start Orb" bitmap images, there are tons on deviantArt. Simply go to http://deviantart.com and search for "start orb" under "All Deviations".

Here is one I really liked, and am now using:

Yes, and making your own Start Orbs is actually really easy. They are done just like "Buttons" are done in Rainmeter, only using black to indicate transparency and saved as a .bmp file.

You can, and I have in the past, but it is a fair bit more complicated to do and I was just impressed with this two-click solution and thought I would pass it along.

You're right and I'm being rude (again) when I don't want to be.
So, yes, you are right, it will help people who don't have the nerves to do with ResHac or just want to do it "fast".

Why would I EVER do something slow if there is a way to do it fast, all other things being equal?

Nice nice. Back in Vista I went through making my own orb and manually inserting it into a theme. Something like this would have saved me tons of time. At the moment I'm using this orb: http://2befine.deviantart.com/art/Blot-ORB-for-Win7-154472122
