Members Map?

Post by sgtevmckay »

I just picked this up from GhostMatrix-Sama

Should we have a forum world map, where members can place where they are, and all can see? :D

It is not something I know how to do off the top of my head, but the MOD should be easily done enough. :ugeek:
There are references and simple MODs all over the net.

What say say you?

Already all set up... ;-)

http://platial.com/mapv/Rainmeter/698481

This is a "Rainmeter Members" map I set up on Frapper. Anyone can add their info to the map and before long we will have a nice reference for where in the world our "Rainiers" hail from. I started us off...

Image

To embed this in the forum, just set up a BBCode like this in the ACP under the "Posting" tab:

BBCode Usage:

Code: Select all

[frapper]{TEXT1}[/frapper]
HTML Replacement:

Code: Select all

<object width="100%" height="350px" id="mapKit1" align="middle" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,0,0"><param name="movie" value="http://platial.com/widgets/frappr/visitormap.swf?mapViewId={TEXT1}&trackingId=mkFL_124594822995&apiKey=326abc8707ba12c8733e502bf4566e2caa78f6fd&domain=platial.com&remote=1&deepLinking=0" ><param name="bgcolor" value="#4c4c4c"><param name="quality" value="high" ><param name="wmode" value="opaque"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain"><param name="base" value="http://platial.com/widgets/frappr/" ><embed src="http://platial.com/widgets/frappr/visitormap.swf?mapViewId={TEXT1}&trackingId=mkFL_124594822995&apiKey=326abc8707ba12c8733e502bf4566e2caa78f6fd&domain=platial.com&remote=1&deepLinking=0" quality="high" width="100%" height="350px" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" bgcolor="#4c4c4c" name="mapKit1" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" base="http://platial.com/widgets/frappr/" wmode="opaque" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"></embed></object><div style="padding:5px; background-color: #757575; font-family:verdana,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:left;"><div style="float:right;"><form action="http://platial.com/search" method="GET"><input type="text" name="what" style="margin-bottom:5px"/><input type="submit" value="Platial Search" style="margin-bottom:5px"/><input type="hidden" name="where" value="world"/><div style="clear:both; "></div></form></div><div style="color:#ddd; float:left;"><a href="http://platial.com/mapmaker/frappr/" style="color:#FFD747; font-size: 14px; text-decoration:none; ">Get Your Frappr GuestMap!</a><br/>Powered by Platial</div><div style="clear:both"></div></div>
Help LIne:

Code: Select all

[frapper]698481[/frapper]
You can mess with this line at the very beginning of the HTML code:

<object width="100%" height="350px"

if you want to mess with the dimensions. It might be better at 90% width and 500px high, but that is up to you...

Then make sure "Display on posting page" is "OFF" so that you can create one topic someplace with the map, (maybe as a "sticky" in "Introductions") and others won't post it all over the place. Do "Submit" and then create a posting wherever you want with

[frapper]698481[/frapper]

in the body, and you are all set.

Nice

Thanks Morely-Sama

Interestingly enough though I have enabled this post for 30 days, and I just verified in the edit menu, but it says that post will end tomorrow!??!!!

Not good. If the post does end, then I will have to repost(?)

I think the "poll" will lock at the end of the time period, but the post shouldn't disappear...

Just double checked.

The post is to remain sticky for 35 days, and teh poll is to run for 30 days....Hmm?????

I am going to check the ACP now

Most frustrating!

I checked the ACP, of course thereis only a poll questions limit.
Double checked the PHPBB3 instructions, and it says it run as specified, and that Moderators or Admin have access to edit once votes are made.

I just triple checked the poll profile, and it should run 30 days :!: :?: :!: :!:

I am wondering to let it expire, and retry to post it, or delete it now and start over, but I already have votes and comments.

Most Frustrating :?

Okie Doke

Regardless of what it says up top, the poll is still running :D

T-Minus 29 days and counting.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you folks think this will be approved and wish to get a head start, Mr. Morely has posted what would then become our official map, and you may enter information at any time :D

This is very nice ... but it all depends if the members will add their location on the map ...
That why I'm working on my personal Rainmeter Members Map, it give me a good overall view of the countries representation at rainmeter.net/forum
I have done all the user profile to check if the location information was available. (from now I only have to check the new members)
Can get the information if a member said his location in a post, from a desktop screenshot (weather skin) or from his weather skin code when he asking for help.
I have only two members location that I'm not sure (I will send them a PM), one is Georgia ... the country or the U.S state ?, the second one is Antartica ... don't know if it a Joke! :?

Here the map result up to now ...

«Map removed "Personal Project"»

And staying on the country location discussion, it would be nice if we could have something like this ...

Image

From the thread http://forum.rainmeter.net/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=208

I have the country flag icons set in the Gif format. (I'm the one (Scrat) who make the flags for the "WinCert" forum)

or even to have the O.S information, could be useful to know which version of "Windows" the member is running.

Again this is just my Image

If at first you don't succeed; call it version 0.1
