Advent of a Wiki Manual

Post by sgtevmckay »

Ok, since I am the village ID10T error

How do we go about this, and adding it to the forum, or through the forum for access?

Go here: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki

Download and then install the software on the server in the "home" directory at the same level as \forum, so you end up with http://rainmeter.net/wiki or whatever name you want (rainwiki might be good)

The instructions for setting it up come with the software and are really, really easy.

Then you configure it in an admin tool to set up a hierarchy of admins/moderators/authors/readers who have different capabilities as far as creating or editing content.

It can be set up in about an hour no problem.

Nice :D

This would definitely be fuller, and more accommodating than the Wiki at the code site.

Well, it's the real wiki software, which lots and lots of folks are familiar with. The advantage of a wiki over a standard online manual is the ability to have it be a collaborative effort by all who are interested. I would suggest having people ask here for "write" access to it so you don't have spammers editing it, but other than that it is a "community think" effort, with everyone who wants to adding and correcting stuff on articles.

A page on for instance "HISTOGRAM" would have a section at the top which would more or less be a standard "manual" entry. It would have a short paragraph on the purpose, then the parameters and such. Next would be links to "related" pages. (perhaps BAR and LINE for this example) Below that could be one or two "Examples" and then a section for "Tips and Traps"

Some times it amazes me how quickly a conversation, especially a relevant one can die (place appropriate shaking head smiley here)
