Offline Rainmeter Manual

Post by jsmorley »

Offline Rainmeter Manual
Below is a full and current copy of all Rainmeter documentation, which can be used when you are offline.
No internet connection is required to use this version of the manual.
  • Unzip the file anywhere you want
  • Run TinyWebStart.bat to use the manual in your default browser
  • Run TinyWebStop.bat when done
-----------------
I have changed things slightly, as our new home for our documentation can't simply be downloaded and used with something like httrack or wget. The manual will now be run in a small local web server called TinyWeb on your local PC.

Using this, nothing is installed or changed in your local Windows. Windows may offer to add an exception for tiny.exe in the firewall the first time you run it; feel free to either allow it, or say "Cancel" and not allow it. It is not needed to use the manual. By default this will use localhost:8000. If you are using port 8000 for something else on your system, you can change TinyWebStart.bat to use any other port you like.

The other day I was just thinking about a standard CHM version.
Would be a tedious effort but I might do it for version 3.0 final manual. :-(

Even if I don't, you do it.
An offline book with advanced search capabilities and bookmarks could a brilliant stuff that Rainmeter community would need at the end.

We prefer the real-time nature of the online manual. Even for the released version, it is constantly updated to improve it and add more value for the users, and we really don't want out of date versions floating around out there. There is never a "final" version of anything. We don't think any extra value of an offline version in the .pdf or .chm or .epub formats are worth the enormous and ongoing effort required to keep absolutely current with the online manual.

In addition, we always prefer to encourage the users to come to our site while they are working in Rainmeter. We have additional materials outside of the manual like the "Tips & Tricks" area, as well as these forums themselves. Getting the users to our site in order to use the documentation is a first step in getting them involved in general.

For offline purposes, the .zip format I have posted here, and which I keep completely current with the online manual, is done with one click and takes me about 30 seconds to keep up to speed. That is enough for now, although we are always willing to listen to ideas.

You are right but it isn't a bad idea.
What you believe is like to have no book published on any computer science cause things are evolving every second.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
