[V1.1.2] FrostedGlass - Now with more acrylic

Post by theAzack9 »

Hello all. :welcome:
After many windows 10 versions has microsoft ended up developing this api a bit further, so i decided to update the plugin :)

Changelog:
Version 1.1.2

Code: Select all

Fixed flickering issue when dynamicvariables=1
Made logging a bit less intensive
Version 1.1.1

Code: Select all

Fixed issue where removing the plugin from a skin and refreshing would keep the effect.
Added a github repo for the plugin
Fixed misc issues
Version 1.1

Code: Select all

Added new "Type" option with types "Blur, Acrylic and None" (will default to blur if none specified for bwc)
Added new Border option that allows you to create a special border around the skin. The sides with borders will have a window shadow, which can look neat if used properly. (Defaults to no border)
Deprecated BlurEnabled (but still works for bwc ofc :) )
Deprecated the bangs (for now at least) (they still work for bwc ofc :) )
Note: using the bangs will disable the borders if they are enabled!
Usage:
Type;;Default: Blur;;Valid values are Blur, Acrylic, and None
Blur will apply the regular blur effect that the plugin applied in version 1.0 (the middle one in the image bellow)
Acrylic will apply the new windows 10 acrylic effect to the window (the first one in the image bellow)
None will not affect anything and is mostly an option to allow you to disable the blur effect (the last one in the image bellow)
Note: The effect applies to the entire skin, only applying this effect to a section of the skin is sadly impossible.
Border;;Default: None;;Valid values are All, None, Left, Right, Top and Bottom.
In order to mix and match the borders can you select a few of the sides by piping them together. e.g Border=Left | Right will create a border on only the left and right side of the skin and not on the top and bottom.

Note: The sides with a border will gain a small shadow.
Note 2: The border exists one pixel outside the skin on the relevant sides and cannot be inside the skin.
An example of the plugin in use:

Code: Select all

[FrostedGlass]
Measure=Plugin
Plugin=FrostedGlass
Type=Acrylic
Border=All
I haven't yet found a way to blur parts of the skin. Currently it blurs the entire skin window.

In windows 8.1 and bellow it simply won't work, so it should be safe, but there won't be any blur effects.

WARNING: this is an unofficial and undocumented method of achieving the blur effect in windows 10 and might therefore be changed in any update of windows 10. If that happens, then every skin using this plugin will loose the blur effect. You have been warned!

The skin is included if more reference is needed. (It will require 4.2 r3074 or above because it uses the new UsageMonitor :) )

Love it !!! :D
It's really a pity that Win10 dosen't support the Aero effect and I've no idea how to realize it for a long time.
Wish it can be better!

Really nice plugin. I am using to my skins, and like it.
I have one request... Is it possible to set/select blur intensity?

Sadly not, there are at least no simple way to do this in the plugin. :(
I'll see what i can do later tho :)

Edit:
You can manipulate rainmeter to do this by setting the skin transparency, so it should be possible with some creative thinking! ;)

Works perfectly! If only it could be implemented for specific zones, sizes, and shapes like with Aero. But seriously, good job. Definitely part of my suite now.

This does make me suspicious on why Rainmeter can't implement blur in W8 and W10.

I use the same method Brian described here:
https://forum.rainmeter.net/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=22915

And i do agree on the reasoning behind the decision, but it doesn't stop me from implementing it myself ;)

btw, cool to talk to the guy behind DropTop and i look forward to see what you can do with this ;)

Love this plugin! I'm curious to know what happens on Windows 7 and older. (without knowing I'm reluctant to include this in a published skin)

Totally understandable tbh, if someone finds any issues, i'll just disable it for versions below windows 10... Still haven't heard from anyone using anything other than windows 10 tho... :/

Might end up just disabling it anyways, i'll see...
