[Bug] Suspending DNS Client service will suspend Rainmeter

Post by oZone »

I was testing vpn and firewall, and found out that suspending DNS Client (dnscache) service will suspend Rainmeter when using skins with

Code: Select all

Plugin=SysInfo
SysInfoType=IP_ADDRESS
or

Code: Select all

Plugin=SysInfo
SysInfoType=NET_MASK
There may be other SysInfoType types which can cause Rainmeter suspension I didn't test everything.

I attempted to reproduce this 'bug' but was unable to because I was unable to suspend the DNS Client (Dnscache) service under Windows 10 2004 build 19041.685.

A note from the Microsoft Documentation site says
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/networking/dns/troubleshoot/disable-dns-client-side-caching wrote:Note

If the DNS resolver cache is deactivated, the overall performance of the client computer decreases and the network traffic for DNS queries increases.

Now the good news.
I lied, there isn't any good news...

I am using Process Explorer to suspend it.
I don't need to use this service as I am using vpn and other dns solutions.

I tested it on latest Win 10 and version 1909.
