Re: Multi languge sections
I would be opposed to it. Not because I have anything against any other language, but this is a forum to help each other. As soon as we have areas that are specific to a particular language that area is useless to anyone who doesn't speak that language. So you end up with a "Swedish" section where there are some small number of folks (probably 2 or 3) who are in reality just using our forums to have a "private" conversation that does nothing to help the community at large. English may not be the best language in the world, not the easiest to learn, not the prettiest, but it is in fact the best "lingua franca" when on an international site on the internet. We would need probably a dozen new forums to cover the majority of languages which are the native tongues of folks here. It would just be a mess.vijayFH wrote:hi @ all

Re: Multi languge sections
hi jsmorley
i have only this feeling that this Community will get one day a big Community and it could be better to get ready for it, it is only my opinion.
And i see sometimes that on this page here are more guest as registered users, and i think when the guest see that here is in any language available maybe they decided to register here, because a service like that will everybody want to be a part of Rainmeter Forums.
It is only my mind
I know there is google and past one language and translate it, but there are some words that have two three meanings and this could be misunderstood.
Belive me i like english, but you know by my poor english i´m every time confused if someone understand what i write :| this is the reasons why i post so much images because everybody later understand what i mean
Anyway i´m happy to be here, and users help me with my problems with the sidebar
I wish all have a nice weekend and enjoy it

Re: Multi languge sections
I have to agree with JS on this. As the community gets larger and more international, it will become more important, not less, to have a single common language. The effect of dividing the forums by language would be to create a set of small, isolated communities where the exchange of ideas would be highly inconvenient. I believe it would also be confusing to new users, and, since Rainmeter itself and all of the documentation are written in English, it still would not eliminate language barriers.

Correct. 25 years from now you may need to speak Mandarin Chinese if you want to participate in an "international" website, but at least for the time being that role is played by English. Not having our forums be for "everyone" just means missed opportunities to have helped someone. Creating segregated "separate but equal" areas on the forums is in my view exactly the opposite of what should be done. Until the day (I could envision it someday soon) when real time translation is just done by your browser as you are viewing things, having someone posting in other than English is just excluding everyone else from the conversation, and is not where we want to go.Kaelri wrote:I have to agree with JS on this. Re: Multi languge sections
Of course not. It was a perfectly reasonable suggestion and If there was a way I could think of to make things easier for folks who are not as comfortable with English while also not segregating them, I would be delighted. I wonder if there isn't some way to integrate some translation engine like Google Translate into the site as a BBCode...vijayFH wrote:hi

Always keep in mind that speaking and writing in foreign languages is the best way to learn that language
I don't think that anybody here is angry about it
