Spiral Clock

Post by eclectic-tech »

Image

Inspired by Archimede's Spiral

Got it close enough for now... get latest version above and see any updates in posts below.

Four versions, clockwise & counter-clockwise rotation / Scale Over-Under
Choice of colors for frame, center orb, numerals, cross-hairs (hide/show), hours spiral, minutes spiral, and seconds spiral, and time scale

May work on other sizes or scaling, but that is down the road... Done!

wtf was I thinking!

What an interesting concept. I could imagine it as a smaller desktop clock with thicker bands actually.

@Crest

Thanks! Feel free to modify the graphics for thicker bands. Been thinking about different sizes, but the have to consider overall size versus readability of the numerals. Made a few additions...

Updates: (Original post link updated)
Added Option to Show Faded Spirals (Instead of just lines)
Added Clock Face Colors: Face-Blue Face-Red Face-Green Face-Gold Face-Silver Face-Black Face-White
Added Option to Show or Hide the Scale (leave image blank) & Show or Hide Numerals
Added Option For Scale to be Above or Under Spirals images

Enjoy!

::Updated 09/20/2013::

Now the size can be dynamically scaled using mouse wheel (.35 to 1.1 zoom)
Redrew faded spirals (cleaner fade)
Added Context Menu controls to toggle Scale and/or Crosshairs
Added Time Display on MouseOver

In the CW versions, the ends of the spirals point to the normal clock reference points on the outer rim; it can be used to determine the time when the scale is hidden or shrunk. The CCW versions have those points reversed (so that takes some getting used to...)

Hoping to add additional scales to show alternate time zones on each axis (with labels)... in the near future

Made few mods to simplify control over the appearance of the clock. ;-)

09/21/2013
Expanded Context Menu for more control over clock appearance
(Toggle: Scale, Numbers, Cross Hairs, Face, Outer Ring, and Set 12/24 Hr Display without Editing)
Re-styled Time Display on MouseOver

Colors for all items can be editing in the variables.inc file
(Comments in that file include all available options)

To Do: Still considering scales on the alternate axis... :draw:

:welcome:

I've been "practicing" using the Transformation Matrix tool, and am learning slowly... :?

Version 2 of my Spiral Clock corrected the scaling to allow for larger sizes; now it scales from 25% to 500% of the original size.
Scrolling the mouse wheel will zoom in or out OR you can "speed" zoom using left/middle mouse clicks.
Right-click shows the context menu where numbers, scale, cross-hairs, clock face, and outer ring overlays of the time spirals can be toggled.

I put together a better preview to show more clock options.
Link in first post will take you to the latest version.
